They lived at 3 Trent St, Long Eaton, Derby, England with their 4 children - Hannah Mary West b. c.1877, Arthur W. West b. c.1878, Margaret West b. c.1880. Charles West was a railway goods guard.
Charles West had a colourful history. His father was reputed to be the illegitimate offspring of an affair between a chambermaid and an aristocrat - (an Earl who had land in Ireland?). He was sent away with his mother (whose name he adopted) and was brought up by an uncle who recognised he had potential. He worked on the railways.
They had 13 children.
